This Year, local artist and metal smith Rita Chevli was the Headliner of the Artists Holiday Show at evolve!
Born in India, Rita studied Commercial Arts. She has lived in Surat(India), Shanghai, Tokyo, and currently resides in Chicago,. Living in Japan got her interested in Pottery and one clay led to another. Precious Metal Clay (PMC) is a clay-like substance that contains microscopic particles of Silver suspended in an organic binder. It becomes pure silver when fired in a kiln above 1450oF.
Having worked with silver for a while, she needed a new direction to keep the creative juices flowing. This led her to traditional metal-smithing. Her work is a ménage trios of Silver, Copper, & Brass.
She works out of her home studio blending PMC Silver, Copper, Brass, Fused Glass (Dichroics), Enamels and semi-precious stones into unique jewelry pieces which reflect her artistic background and her travels. In essence, her designs portray traditional east meeting contemporary west.
