I would like to take a moment to talk about how simple life can really be. I know in the modern world of technology, global economics, geo-political skirmishing, and getting the kids off to school in the morning, it may not always seem that way, but life can be really, really simple.
To help clarify this point, I would like to share a powerful concept that, after years of meditation, soul searching and esoteric study, I found sitting on my mother-in-law’s kitchen window sill. . .
On a simple, sun-faded wooden plaque it said:
With this sublime truth in mind, we can see our way through most of life’s problems with ease and grace! The problem we always have when it comes to this idea is accepting the first part. In each and every moment of our existence, we are blessed with our particular circumstance. We might not always see the circumstances as a blessing, but that’s our work. When stress or some sort of unpleasantness arises, we cry out that this moment is surely not a gift from God. However, there are several problems with that line of logic, the most important being that, our judgement of the moment is what is making it unpleasant.
There are many times in life when it can be hard not to look a gift horse in the mouth, so to speak. However, if we can learn to rest in the acceptance that each and every moment is a gift, we can begin to remember that we have a choice of what to make of that moment.
When we get really good at accepting the gift of life, it starts to feel like a game or a dance. We can watch our circumstance as it manifests and then transform it with our recognition of it’s sacred nature. We can give back.
When we rest in the knowledge that every moment in life is a precious gift, we begin to glow and glimmer in the darkness. We plant beauty where before, there was none. We respond differently to difficult situations and we alter our lives and the lives of those around us for the better.
This is a process of gratitude for the gift of life, and I think Gratitude is one of the best gifts we can offer God.
Blessed to be Grateful
