This is a question I’ve been faced with many times. Often it has been asked when I would dare to dream big, or when I had the nerve to stand up for what I believe in.
So who do you think you are, and what makes you so special?
I find myself constantly adjusting the answer to that question. I am always growing into new definitions of self, and who I really am is always expanding into the space of that very question!
We answer that question every day and in many ways it is the very purpose of our existence to do so. Each day we declare to the whole of creation who we are and what we stand for. We stand in line at the grocery store and tell the universe we are patient members of a civil society. We vote on what we value when we shop at local businesses and big chains. We choose to forgive people who have hurt us and we smile at strangers, or maybe we don’t. However we live our lives, we speak loudly and clearly about who we are with every act, every day.
We formulate ideas about how things are and how we fit in, all the time. We build up concepts like, “business person”, “parent”, and “responsible driver” that make day to day life easier to handle. These ideas fit for a while and then new circumstances challenge them and we are called to a greater depth of experience and understanding. We are called to answer the questions, what really makes a person a parent? What does business person mean? Each person is involved in this process and each generation is called to greater things than the generation before! Each culture is growing and evolving and it all spirals out of the grasp of our concepts in a dance of spiritual creation the likes of which we have never seen before.
Each and every one of you is a growing and expanding expression of the divine pulse of life that flows through all of creation. There is not one set of eyes reading these words who is not a piece of the divine puzzle, and every single one of you is absolutely unique! There has never in all of history been another being who’s views and perceptions have been informed and shaped by the same set of circumstances and choices as yours. Never before and never again will there ever be a being like you.
Because of that, your experience of life is very important. Not just to you, but to the whole of humanity! Your unique perspective can only be had ONCE in the vastness of eternity. Your unique ability to contribute and create will never be seen again. You are, at this very moment, the culmination of the entire process of life and it is WITHIN YOU that all the ages of depth and meaning are conspiring to create tomorrow. It is through YOU that life expresses what it means to be alive!
So, just who do you think you are, anyway?
And just what is it that makes YOU so special?
May the light of all that is good shine through you today!
~Namaste~
